Grenada Government Printery

The Grenada Government Printery was established in 1885, one hundred and thirty-five years ago (as of May 2020), by the then colonial government. Prior to acquiring its own printing facility, government’s printing needs were met by a private printing firm, General Printing Office of Charles Wells and Son, a British company officially designated Printers to the Legislature.

Through this private entity the government published the Grenada Gazette from 7th January, 1883 to fulfill the critical need for public information, including promulgation of legislation. Grenada Gazette was subsequently renamed Government Gazette when  the Government’s own printery was established in early 1885 and produced its first gazette, Volume three, Issue No. 18 datelined Wednesday May 6, 1885.

The Government Gazette is used as a tool to communicate messages of national importance to the general public. It contains information of a legal, administrative and general nature.

Extraordinary Gazette - As part of daily administration of the country, specific matters of urgent or emergency nature may arise, which must be communicated to the public. Due to urgency, such matters may not be suitable to stand over until a Friday and subsequently are published as Extraordinary Gazettes. These gazettes are thus supplementary editions of the Government Gazette and are published any day of the week as and when required.
